VENICE

With 117 islands, 150 canals and 400 bridges, the most romantic of all cities still casts a spell on everyone who visits it.
Earthly pleasures, exalted art, charming buildings, vaporetti, public sea-buses and gliding gondolas will transport you to another world.
Venice is a permanent carnival, rejoicing in a masked ball that drive visitors into a sensual atmosphere. Let you be carried away by this enthusiasm!

ON ARRIVAL
There are several possibilities to reach the historic city centre from the airport:
Car taxis: it takes 15 minutes to get to Piazzale Roma, the price is approximately 20 £; (radiotaxi Mestre tel.+39-041-936222). Once you reach Piazzale Roma you can easily start your tour of Venice on foot or by waterbus.
Private Water taxis: it is the fastest means to reach the historical centre - approximately 30 minutes - but also the most expensive.
Bus ATVO: a direct connection from the airport to Piazzale Roma that takes about 20 minutes; buses leave every half an hour. The ticket costs 2£ and includes luggage. The buses leave outside the arrivals area on the right. For information on bus timetables please call the following numbers 041-5415180/5205530 or check the ATVO website at the adress www.atvo.it
Bus ACTV: it is a public transport bus (Line 5) and therefore makes several stops before reaching Piazzale Roma (it takes approximately half an hour). The ticket is quite cheap - it costs 1£ , but does not include luggage transport. You have to purchase an extra ticket for each suitcase you're carrying on the bus (the same price as for passengers).

DINING OUT
Some typical dishes are "fegato alla veneziana" (sliced calves' liver with onion), "seppie" (squid cooked in its own ink), "bisi e risi" (risotto with fresh peas, ham and herbs), "polenta" (cornmeal) with tomato sauce, as well as plenty of fresh fish from the lagoon. Taste "tiramisù", a confection of chocolate, coffee, mascarpone cheese and brandy.
Bardolino, Bianco di Custoza, Soave, Valpolicella, Verduzzo, Tocai wines are an ideal accompaniment to your meal.

SHOPPING
In the narrow streets which wind beside the canals and over the little arched bridges there is a wide variety of enticing shops from elegant boutiques to busy street markets.
The most exclusive boutiques are in St Mark’s Square. If you are looking for more variety go to the Mercerie, which is the main shopping street running from St Mark’s to Rialto Bridge.
For the local crafts travel to the nearby islands- Murano for glassware and Burano for lace.
