Nearby we find some wide Etruscan necropolises with tombs dated VIII - II Century B.C.
Tarquinia , the Etruscan capital and a medieval town, is an internationally-known archaeological and important cultural site; it is situated on high ground, in a good panoramic position and, in the archaeological museum, there is one of the most important collections of Etruscan finds in Italy and the six thousand tombs of the necropoli, with its famous frescoes.
Near Cassino the abbey of Montecassino was founded in 529 B.C. by Saint Benedict, over the ruins of an ancient acropolis.
The archipelago of the Pontine Islands is situated almost in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in front of the shores of Lazio and it belongs to the province of Latina. It is formed by two groups of islands: the first group, situated West-North-West, includes Ponza, Gavi, Palmarola and Zannone (uninhabited); the second group, East-South-East, is formed by Ventotene and "S. Stefano", which is uninhabited.
In the Summer Ventotene is linked with Formia and Anzio by ferry and hydrofoils, while Ponza is also reachable from Terracina and S. Felice Circeo.
Time seems to stop inside the craftsmen's shops of Viterbo : situated at the foot of the Cimini Mountains and surrounded by a fertile valley. Viterbo offers us the chance to visit the Palace of the Pope, the cathedral, the medieval quarter, the Big Fountain, and the Palace of Alessandri.
The ideal seasons to visit Frosinone are late Spring and Summer , when everything is in bloom and the heat is not too strong: an interesting itinerary could be a visit to "the Porta" (the gothic entrance to the old part of the town), moving on to the Cathedral of Assunta, on to the Government and finally the Province Palaces.
